Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial & Art Gallery (RAMM)

Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel is located on Queen Street across the road from Exeter Central Station.

Turn right out of the hotel and wander up Queen Street and you'll see the magnificent Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) across the road.

 

Northernhay Gardens and Rougemont Gardens

The entrance to Northernhay Gardens is pretty much opposite the hotel.

From Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel, cross Queen Street and turn right and you'll see the gates of Northernhay Gardens in front of you. Exeter City Wall divides Northernhay Gardens from Rougemont Gardens.

 

Exeter Castle

Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel gets its name from Rougemont Castle which is also known as Exeter Castle. Whilst there's not much left of Rougemont Castle (Exeter Castle) the gatehouse you'll see 'is the oldest castle building standing in Britain'. (Source: information board on site)

 

Exeter City Wall Trail, Exeter Woollen Trail and Exeter Medieval Trail

There's an information board in front of the castle gatehouse. This is part of the Exeter City Wall Trail. We'd recommend following the trail and discovering Exeter's history.

You can also walk the Exeter Woollen Trail and the Exeter Medieval Trail.

 

Queen Street Dining

Queen Street Dining is a new foodie destination in Exeter and it's on Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel's doorstep.

Turn right out of the hotel, walk up Queen Street and you'll very shortly come to the cluster of restaurants and bars at Queen Street Dining.

 

Gandy Street

Alternatively, wander around the side of Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) and grab some food and drink in Gandy Street. There are plenty of independent shops here as well.

 

High Street

If shopping is your thing then Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel is situated very close to Exeter High Street.

 

Princesshay

The High Street leads to Exeter Princesshay that's packed with shops, restaurants and coffee shops.

Turn right out of Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel, walk up Queen Street until you come to the High Street. Turn left and follow the High Street to Paris Street and Exeter's Underground Passages.

No holiday in Exeter is complete without a trip to Exeter Cathedral Close and Exeter Cathedral.

Turn right out of Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel, walk up Queen Street until you come to the High Street. Cross the road into the alleyway that takes you past the Ship Inn to Exeter Cathedral Close.

The entrance to Exeter Cathedral is at its famous west end.

Having explored Exeter Cathedral, we'd recommend continuing to the wonderful Exeter Historic Quayside. Great visitor destination.
