Exeter Cathedral Close
The Premier Inn Exeter City Centre is one of a cluster of hotels located near Exeter Cathedral Close.
Turn left out of Premier Inn Exeter City Centre and walk along Southernhay Gardens until you come to Southernhay East. Turn right, walk up Southernhay East until you come to a road on your left that cuts across Southernhay West into Cathedral Close. An alleyway takes you to the east end of the cathedral.
Exeter Cathedral
Paths run around the north side of Exeter Cathedral to the entrance at its west end. Before entering the building, take in the famous sculptures on its west face.
Barnfield Theatre
If you fancy a trip to the theatre, Exeter Barnfield Theatre is pretty much on the Premier Inn Exeter City Centre's doorstep.
Turn left out of Premier Inn Exeter City Centre and walk along Southernhay Gardens until you come to Southernhay East. Turn right, walk up Southernhay East until you come to Barnfield Road. The theatre is on your right.
Princesshay
Alternatively, when you come to Barnfield Road, turn left and cross Southernhay West into Exeter Princesshay with its shops, restaurants and cafes.
Exeter Underground Passages
At the top of Princesshay, where it meets Paris Street, turn left and you come to the superb, quirky Exeter's Underground Passages.
High Street
From Exeter Underground Passages, continue to the top of Exeter High Street. You'll see John Lewis where the High Street meets Sidwell Street.
Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM)
Follow the High Street down to Queen Street, turn right and you'll come to Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM).
Quayside
Turn left out of Premier Inn Exeter City Centre and walk along Southernhay Gardens until you come to Southernhay East. Walk down Southernhay East to Magdalen Street. Follow Magdalen Street into South Street. Cross the road and take the footbridge over the busy Western Way before dropping down to the quayside.
Activities
If you want to enjoy outdoor or indoor adventure activities, we'd recommend heading down to the quayside. Try climbing, watersports, cycling and boat trips. There are many excellent walking trails along the Exe Estuary. Try the Exe Estuary Trail.
River Exe, Exeter Canal and the Exe Estuary
Exeter's Historic Quayside lines the River Exe and Exeter Canal (Exeter Ship Canal). You can walk or cycle down the Exe Estuary. Amazing part of Devon and the Westcountry.
